Juanjo Marquez

Juanjo, a former professional basketball player turned sports executive, is since 2001 the managing director and majority shareholder of Media Action Sports, a company that is primarily in the business of globalizing products, and increasing the value of business and properties via the international distribution of media rights. Juanjo has become an expert in the understanding of how to successfully mix media, sports and brands at an international level.

Juanjo Márquez was born in Huelva, Spain in 1972, started his career in Sports Marketing and Television at Sportcal Global Communications in London, where he became the Director for Business Development. At age 24, he set up, in partnership, his own Sports and Media Agency in London: Extreme International. One year later he became the Co-Founder of the Extreme Sports Channel, nowadays present in over 60 countries worldwide.

In 2000, he became Business Development Director at Farian Sports Investments and Media Director at Offshore Sports Promotions, where he was an advisor for European football clubs and sport media companies such as: Class 1 TV and Offshore Sports Promotion. During 2001 he set up Media Action Sports, a leading sports marketing and TV rights agency with offices in Seville (Spain) and London (UK).

During his 20 years in the business Juanjo Marquez has licensed over 20,000 thousand hours of audiovisual content to TV stations and OTT platforms from around the world, he has launched a Pan-European Sports Television Channel: Extreme Sports Channel, consulted for and represented the interest of a variety of brands and entities during the last decade, such as: Playstation, Real Madrid FC, Manchester City, LG Electronics, PokerStars.com, Fanatix, PlayUp, Woohoo Brazil, English Premier League, BBC Sport, Network Nine Australia, NBA Entertainment, as well as the Spanish National Basketball and Football Federations, during the period when both were current world champions.

Aside from his dense executive career, he has imparted master classes at a number of Universities and collages including: FAU - Florida Atlantic University (US), City of Westminster College (UK) or the European Univesity of Madrid, where during two courses was a lecturer at the Universidad Europea de Madrid for the Master’s Degree in Sports Management, organized by Real Madrid FC.

Mr. Marquez has written articles about sports marketing, sponsorship and media rights for several world recognised publications such as SportBusiness International and is considered one of the top 20 sports investment consultants for Gerson Lerhman Group, a multinational Consulting Management Platform.
