In its 84th year, the oldest clay tournament in Spain, the Tennis Kings Cup is still one of the top international tournaments in the world attracting the highest ranking players.
The Cup was a gift from the King Alfonso XII to the club in 1912. The trophy has engraved on its base each winners name. Amongst the winners and participants were: Henri Leconte (FRA), Andres Gomez (ECU), Carlos Moya (ESP), Albert Costa (ESP), Tim Henman (ENG), Alex Corretja (ESP), 2004 G. Calleri (ARG), 2005 Rafael Nadal (ESP), 2006 Guillermo Coria (ARG), 2007 Nicolas Almagro (ESP).
In 2008, the 2007 winner Nicolas Almagro, David Ferrer, Carlos Moya and Albert Montanes accepted the invitation to participate and become the next player to write his name in the history books of the oldest and most royal Spanish Tennis Club. In the end, world number five, David Ferrer (ESP) became 2008 champion.
